Blog Entry 13

our readings and films this semester have been full of creatures that are simply not human. God’s, demons, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and more run through the pages of our collective world literature. My essays reflect on the possible reasons as to why humans continue to produce literature of the supernatural. I’ve always believed that supernatural is just as real as the real world only its descised differently to catch the viewer’s eyes in a different perspective. With common resources that we've learned throughout the semester and from the movie we last watch ''Miyazaki's Spirited Away'' I will be sharing my opinions as to why humans continue to produce literature from using supernatural theories.

In the movie Spirited Away Miyazaki is a young girl who ends up in a spiritual world full of all types of spirits and monsters. In this world Miyazaki’s parents are transformed into pigs after eating the food of the spirits. Miyazaki’s than has to try to rescue her parents from being eating by the spirits so her only choice is to become a servant and work in this spiritual retreat. Miyazaki accepts this job position and later in the movie eventually she learns about respect, and discipline. The thesis in this movie is how Miyazaki starts off rude no discipline, so the spirits put her through harsh punishment and while she tries to rescue her parents she’s bettering herself and proving to the spirits that she is good , she does have discipline and she is strong enough to be capable of saving her parents. This brings me to the reason why I believe humans continue to use supernatural stories they continue to use these stories to be able to create imagination while still having a moral to these stories. Supernatural is a way of us humans to break free from the real world and experience creativity in our minds it’s like an eye opener in a way because for some people it’s not always easy to understand the moral of a situation. So maybe it works better for those types of people to break away from the real world and open up their imagination which allows them to understand more compared to just seeing or reading a regular book with the moral boring and just there. Supernatural is a fun different way for us readers or viewers to understand the moral of a story with the sense of weirdness and excitement behind it. Everyone is different when it comes to how people see and view things. So I believe supernatural stories are another reason for people to use their imagination and open up their minds to what they believe the moral of the story could be. In all do reality there’s never one moral in a story even if it’s based specifically on a listen to be learned and why is that because everybody has their own perspective on what they believe is the listen of the story.

This brings me to my conclusion.  There’s millions of reasons why supernatural stories are being used today to teach use morals values or to bring out our imagination. Many reasons such as creativity, imagination, excitement, entertainment and much more. But over all I think everybody can agree that supernatural is way more interesting than your regular typical real life based stories. It gives us a sense of excitement and usually has more passion compared to typical stories. I believe humans continue to use supernatural literature because it keeps us young, and feeds us good values hidden behind these supernatural based stories but it’s like puzzle it’s up to us to figure out what’s the message behind all these supernatural stories. This again makes it more intriguing.

Break down of Bella’s Archetypes From Twilight’s Saga Breaking Dawn

When you think of Twilight the first thing that pops into your head is a teenage romance story between a girl and a vampire. But it’s way more than that. It’s obvious that Edward and Bella are lovers but the structure of the entire books isn’t just based on love there’s a lot more symbols and details that comes from the stories these books are trying to tell. Symbols like the settings of where different action’s in the books take place,  or flash backs from the past, life after death,  details like this is what creates so many different types of archetypes in each of the characters specifically with Bella’s character her being one of the main characters in this Saga.

In the first book Twilight Bella starts off by staying with her Dad Charlie in forks California for a temporary vacation. The settings in Forks was dark, misty, rained a lot barley any sun. Bella’s parents are separated and Bella’s Mother Renee was remarried living in Phoenix one of the sunniest parts of Florida. Bella’s a lot older since she last saw her farther so it isn’t exactly a normal Farther and Daughter relationship, there isn’t any real relationship between them at all you can tell they both have extreme father daughter love for one another deeply but there was so much distance between them that there’s no way of expressing their emotions which make them so alike in so many ways but their distant relationship doesn’t allow them to express that. Bella & Charlie’s ‘’ farther daughter’’ relationship is more of an award type there’s a lot of silence they hardly say much typically short conversations. It’s weird because they communicate through silence. So Bella eventually stays long enough to start high school in forks where she eventually meets her mate Edward Cullen which is where the beginning of the cinimax in this love story starts. Through Twilight Bella’s character comes off very vulnerable and scared, talks to herself like if she were invisible to the real world. Bella’s not your regular teenage girl everything about her makes her completely weird and abnormal which makes her so perfect in the afterlife. She just comes across really antisocial, wears dark clothes, always looks tired, never does her hair, and looks over all depressed. Doesn’t have the typical popular girl role with a bunch of girlfriends or goes on dates Bella has barley any type of social life very closed person she lives in her inside of her own thoughts most of the time. Bella’s thoughts are  lay w huge role in the book since Bella’s role is so private and quite her thoughts is what helps the reader understand how she feels and what she’s going through when. Which is also an important factor because One of Edward’s powers is he can read minds Bella’s mind is so powerful that even as a human Edward can’t read her mind and its one reasons that draws such a intimate connection between the two. Bella’s thoughts change throughout the books as the story gets more intense but in the beginning of her finding herself her thoughts are basically about how she just doesn’t fit in with the world and her feelings towards her dad and her broken family, which later her thoughts become about finding her meaning in life once she falls in love with Edward. Towards the end of twilight Bella’s vulnerabilities and fear is what almost gets her killed in the end and throughout the books her thoughts and insecurities over power her in a lot of ways making her the victim. All of these details and bits of peace’s is what introduces Bella’s character in the beginning of the Twilight Saga as ‘’The orphan’’.  How she comes across in the beginning as a girl coming from a broken home, with a lot of vulnerabilities perfectly describes this archetype.

Towards the ending of the Saga Bella discovers her purpose when she falls in love with Edward. Bella feels she has to become a Vampire that after life is her purpose of living. The Love between Edward and Bella is so fascinating and deep because it’s like the popular love story where the girl is in love with a guy but loving the guy is forbidden making the girl crave for the love even more eventually making the girl sacrifice anything to save their love. Bella having to make the choice of staying alive or transforming puts a lot of pressure on her.  In the process of that one of Bella’s main concerns is the safety of her and her love ones because every time she’s decides to stay with Edward the vampire  while she’s still human and having a human dad she’s risking the lives of not only herself, Edward, and her Dad but everyone around her.

In the Twilight Breaking Dawn Saga there’s this huge and powerful group of all vampires called the Volturi and the Volturi are seen as what we would look at it like the law enforcement of all ‘’cold ones’’/Vampires but the twisted side to the Volturi is that their secretly and non-secretly out to gather the strongest group of all cold ones/vampires and become the most powerful rulers. The  Volturi already being the strongest, most powerful group around one of their laws is that a human must never know of the cold ones secret.  Once the Volturi finds out of the love affair Between Bella & Edward they demand Edward to kill Bella unless he turns her into a Vampire if no they will destroy he whole Cullen family and Bella. Which than becomes a major part in the book the Volturi is a big part of the history of the cold ones they’ve wanted Edward to join them for quite some decades because of Edwards magnificent powers so once the Volturi become of aware of what’s happening  it puts Bella and Edward in a fight against the most powerful group of all Vampire’s/Cold ones. But then there’s another twist where Bella’s best friend is a Werewolf who’s in war with the Cold Ones/ Vampires and desparetly inlove with Bella as well. So that just adds onto the already complicated situation. Edward loves Bella so much  he doesn’t want to  force her into turning into a Vampire where Bella feels if she doesn’t turn into a vampire she’s just going to get everybody killed in her mind she already knows she was disten to be with Edward and that turning into a vampire was the only way. With Bella being human it kept making her whole surrounding vulnerable between other enemy vampire’s. This love story gets so crazy that Bella once In beginning was being looked at as a weakness of the bunch ends up becoming the strongest who has what it takes to step up and take the sacrifices needed to be taken to save the lives of her and her loved ones turning her into the ’’Destroyer’’ who would do anything to protect the ones she love.

Many of the things that makes Bella so amazingly unique in this book is how she starts off as a nobody with troubles and no meaning than ends up being the piece of the puzzle that changes the revolution of vampires and wear wolves forever. The way Bella & Jacob/Werewolf becomes best friends is because Jacobs Dad and Charlie are longtime friends. When Bella first moves into Folks Jacob comes by and she has a little moment with Jacob where they reminisce when they were kids, which eventually turns into an unbreakable bond. Jacob finds out more about his werewolf heritage after reconnecting with Bella. Bella is the one starts this amazing revolution against Vampire’s, Werewolf’s, & Humans. From the moment she comes to folks she’s destined to change these two worlds and she’s not even aware of it.

Towards the ending of the books Bella & Edward gets married, jacbos Flee’s because he feels he lost his love and cant stand the thought of her turning trying to save the life of her baby who in Jacbs eyes he sees as a monster.  That’s when the trickness gets you because Bella gets pregnet from Edward still being human. Now in this world of vampires ,vampire/moral babies are the most dangerous and the most powerful. Bella is forced to turn after she refeses to kill her child and dies giving birth to her daughter Renesme. Edward is forced to do what he never wanted to do and that was change Bella he wanted to keep her human as long as he could. But Bella being who she is again would rather loose her life to give her daughter a fair chance at one.  This is where all of the craziness starts spirals out of hand because now Edwards family ‘’ The Cullens’’   have to fight against the Werewolves & the Vultori who both want to destroy the baby in fear of what the baby is capable of not knowing Bella’s daughter is a powerful mix of both Edwards immortal powers and her Mothers human traits making her very strong warm , kind , and super mature. What finally brings the Vampire’s and werewolves together is when Jacob imprints on Renesme (Bella’s daughter). Making it Jacobs job as a werewolf trait to love, protect  her , and grow old with her forever. So what started off as a love affair against Edward, Bella, & Jacob turns into this crazy scenario where he ends up with Bellas & Edwards only daughter which still works out because it brings them all together and starts a new generaion of love amonstg humans and vampire’s, werewolf’s & half mortal half vampiers. Now while all of this is going about the Volturi is out to dsroy Bella’s entire family. Puts Bella’s gaurds up where she knows shes not the vunrable girl that started off in the beginning of the book, bellas stronger now is well aware of her great powers and again is willing to do anything to protect everything she stands for.  Eventually Bella’s finds away to protect her family still avoiding a war but knowing with time a war will happen and knowing she will do anything she has to. Transformed Bella is a ‘’ Warrior’’

So here we had an orphan who lost doesn’t have any meaning till she finds herself  becoming a destroyer for the ones she loves. Who later comes out the strongest on top although she started off unaware of how strong and powerful she truly is. Making her the warrior she never thought she was capable of being.  One of the reasons why I love Twilight so much isn’t because it’s a typical love affair is everything  this love affair is based on.

The film star dust is about an adventure between a shooting star, a shop boy, a witch, and the two sons of a king in search for a necklace with a stone that wrapped around the stars neck and that stone will till the fate if the next king. The shop boys name is Tristan. His archetype is a seeker and the lover. He goes out in search for the star to prove gain the love of who he believes at the time is Victoria a wealthy girl.  When Tristan finally gets to the star he finds out the Star is actually a beautiful girl name Vaine and through out the journey to get to Victoria he starts to learn his earner strengths and how he was really meant to find the star to save her life from the witch and than he realizes Vaine is his true love. Tristan archetype is repsentened negatively when towards the end of the film he leaves Vaine to tell Victoria he no longer loves her but when he does Vaine miss understands the reason he left thinking it was because he had still chosen Victoria. Its than Tristan's archetype is represented positively when he the which captures Vaine and Tritian finds Victoria and destroys the witches with out ever having to kill any one.

The archetype I found that was problematic was '' The Orhan''. The Pearson describes the Orphan as a little girl who's parents had to give her away because they couldn't afford her. The Orphan girl gets sent to live with her Grandmother who raises her with warmth and love. The Grandmother later gets ill and dies , the orphan girl gets sent back to her parents where she would be sent every night in the streets to sell matches. The orphan girl gets abused by the farther when not selling enough matches. On one of those cold nights instead of returning home the orphan girl chose to stay outside because she would rather freeze than be home. The orphan girl trys to light up a match to get some type of heat. When the orphan girl lights up a match she sees her bits of her grandmother until she lights up all the matches  and gets a full image her grandmother holds her close and the orphan girl smiles,  The next day they find the orphan girl's body barefoot , dressed in rags, she was dead but died with a smile.

The basic characteristics about this archetype is about the venerable little girl, who has done nothing wrong yet is suffering so much. The irresponsible and cold parents who gave life to the little girl , abandon and abuses her at the same time showing no love or care towards their own child. The loving grandmother, who takes the little girl in and shows her the meaning of love. These types of archetypes you see on a everyday real life of the kid in school , who's anti social, has poor hygiene, always looks sad, tends be really skinny or very hungry. Who later dies and people find out it was the abusive farther who killed the child while the mother was to afraid to do anything about it.

The reason i feel like this archetype is problematic is because the way the story of the little girl takes place. Shes abandon from the beginning . Theres so much trauma and suffering from the very beginning.Than her grandmothers takes her in and gives her a reason to believe in happiness, the little girls only hope. The orphan doesn't even get the normal chance of living a life that a child should with a family , love ,the proper care etc. Than Dies in such a tragic way yet because she knows shes going with her grandmother she dies with a smile on her face. Its just confusing as to why she had to go through so much such an innocent child.

The poem I chose to write about was ''Dear Mama'' By Tupac. He was a legionary artist who's inspiration came from how he grew up and all the things living in the streets showed him. The poem is very deep it talks a lot about his child hood and the things his mother faced while trying to raise him alone. I personally relate to a lot of Tupac's poems and that's why i chose this poem to write about.

Mid-Term Reflection Blog Entry 8

So far in Eng 102 Ive learned that poetry is based on symbols. Ive learned various types of symbols such as Monomyth, Archetypes,Apostrophe, repetition ,Imaginary, paradox, alliteration and much more. Each of these symbols comes with various ways to express ones theme in a poem. Ive learned how to read poems as far as using a beat to it or saying it a certain type of way. Ive learn so much details on how to low a a poem , how to realize the symbols used in a poem, and how to read the symbolism in the poem to reflect on what the poem is about.

His Fans love and honor him for his brother hood and passion for where he came from.

In Blog Entry 3 I chose the topic of discussing his song Dear Mama because of the poetry and art that inspired such a meaningful song. One of the reasons why this song touches me so much is because I related to him on the appreciation he grew for his mother when he was old enough to understand all that she had been through trying to raise him the best way she could. He raps with a lot of details describing when he was younger all that she would do for him and 2pac being to young to realize. He describes how he sold drugs and went to jail and his mother stood by his side. As he got older he wanted to show her how much her loved her and appreciated her. In the song every word touches you because he raps with so much emotion and feelings behind his music that it almost like he’s rapping your life in a difference reference.

Music is a great form of poetry it comes from a lot emotion and passion. 2pac was great at expressing his form of art through his music. That Is why I chose his song Dear Mama as my discussion.
